神戸にいます Kobe
お久しぶりです。神戸に来ています。ポートタワー、神戸海洋博物館、そして神戸メリケンパークオリエンタルホテルが見えています。
神戸は海と山が同時に見える素敵なところですね。

Now, I am in Kobe. This is a view of Kobe Port Tower, Kobe Maritime Museum and Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel.
Kobe is a nice town where you can see both mountains and the sea.

ルミナス神戸2 Luminous Kobe-2
クルーズ船ルミナス神戸2 に乗って2時間のクルーズです。大小さまざまな船と一緒に明石海峡大橋に向かっていくのは楽しかったです。
I had a two-hour cruise on Luminous Kobe-2. We went close to the world longest suspension bridge, Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. It was a lot of fun looking at many boats, in different size and shapes, going under the bridge.

私はたいして何もしませんが、唯一やっているのがカーペットを変えること。
冬の絨毯をしまって、花ござを敷きます。
I don't do much, but every June, I put away my heavy, thick rug in our living room and spread out this light, summer rug.

福岡の掛川織の花ござを気にいって使っています。
ひんやり、さらっとしていて気持ちいいんです。
It is Kakegawa-ori rug from Fukuoka, Kyushu, made of Igusa (soft rush grass) just like tatami mat.
It's a great summer rug; feels cool against your warm body and doesn't stick to your skin even when you are sweating.

模様も気に入っています。 And it's pretty, too.
もう10年くらい使っていますが、丈夫なのかまだしっかりしています。
今でも出してくると、いぐさの香りがかすかにぷんとするんですよ。
Though mine is almost ten years old, when I was taking it out from the storage, I could still sense its grassy Igusa scent.

83景 月の岬 View 83 Moon-Viewing Point

海に面した料理屋で小さなお月見の宴が行われた後でしょうか？
お刺身の大皿、水鉢に浮かべたおちょこ、周りには扇子やキセル等々が無造作に散らばっています。
お皿の右にちょっぴり見えている芸者さんはどうやら三味線をしまって帰るところのようです。
左手の障子に映る影はかんざしをたくさん挿した遊女。
宴が終わって、さてこれから…。
ちょっとどきどきする作品です。（*^_^*）
This is a room inside a house of pleasure by the sea.
A small, private moon-viewing party has just finished.
Around the lantern scatter the party leftovers; a big sashimi plate, sake cup floating in a washing bowl, a fan, a pipe, etc.
Mostly hidden, but we can make out a geisha sitting by the plate.
She is probably packing up her samisen (a musical instrument with strings) to leave.
Behind the shoji screen to the left, stands a courtesan, with the elaborate hair style.
Well, we can easily imagine what's coming next, can't we?
月の名所として有名な月の岬がどこを指すか諸説あるようですが、品川の近く八ツ山というのが有力なようです。
現在の八ツ山橋という橋のあたりです。
The location of this Moon-Viewing Point is said to be Yatsuyama, not far from Shinagawa Station, and where Yatsuyama Bridge is today.

But I guess I had a luck!
3日前、7月12日のことです。
甥っ子の結婚式が品川であり、その日はホテルで一泊して帰ることにしました。
It was three days ago, 12 of July.
I attended my nephew's wedding in Shinagawa (it was a wonderful wedding!), and stayed at a hotel afterwards.

駅の背後にはたくさんの高層ビルが立ち並んでいます。隙間からお台場にあるフジテレビ本社ビルが見えましたから、ビル群の向こうがすぐ水際なんだと思います。

なんとホテルの部屋から大きな満月が見えるではないですか！
明るくって大きな月！
後で知ったのですが、ちょうどその日は「スーパームーン」と呼ばれる満月が見られる珍しい日だったそうです。
When the evening fell, I went "wow!"
From our room, I could see the big full moon in the sky!
It was so beautiful, so bright!
Later, I learned that it was the "supermoon" full moon, which I don't understand very well, except that it was the very special moon.
というわけで、意図せずして、広重の絵よろしく品川の宿でお月見を楽しむことができました。
What a coincidence that I could enjoy the "super" moon-viewing in Shinagawa!

28景 品川御殿やま View 28 Goten-yama in Shinagawa

なんとなく上下の趣が違う絵ですね。
上半分はお花見の景色。ピンクの桜の下花見を楽しむ人々が描かれています。
でも下半分は…。
むき出しの岩肌。灰色のぬかるみを人が歩いています。
This view is not as pretty as others, I think.
The upper half is OK. It's a nice depiction of cherry blossom viewing, pink blossoms and people strolling under cherry trees.
But lower half?
Hillside is bare and people are walking through gray muddy swamp.
ここは品川御殿山。
太田道灌が城を築き、また江戸初期には徳川家が江戸湾を見下ろす御殿も建てた山なので御殿山と呼ばれました。
やがて御殿は焼失。8代将軍吉宗が桜の木を植えさせたので、桜の名所となりました。（吉宗は飛鳥山、隅田川沿いの桜も植えたんでしたよね。桜が好きだったんですね。）
This is Goten-yama (Palace Hill) in Shinagawa.
It was called so because in the early Edo period, Tokugawa Shoguns had a villa on this hill, where they could enjoy the great view of Edo Bay.
But sometime later, it was burned down, and the eighth Shogun Yoshimune started planting cherry trees. (This Shogun must have loved cherry blossoms, He planted cherry trees in so many places, such as Asuka-yama and the Sumida River.)
Since then, it became a popular cherry blossom viewing spot.
広重も御殿山の桜は何回も描いています。
Hiroshige had depicted Goten-yama many times.
Goten-yama and Edo Bay in the distance 御殿山とその向こうに江戸湾が広がっています。

でも1853年、御殿山はその形を変えてしまいます。
というのも…
But in 1853, Goten-yama changed its shape.
Why?
その年、ペリーの黒船が浦賀に来航。
幕府は江戸防衛のため、江戸湾に大砲を設置するための人工の島お台場を数基建設しました。
その時必要となった大量の土砂のためにこの御殿山が削られたというわけです。
この絵は1856年発行ですが、広重は山の形が変わったことを記録しておきたかったのかもしれないですね。
That year, Admiral Perry's Black Ships came to Japan.
In order to defend Edo, Tokugawa Shogunate constructed several battery islands (Odaiba) in Edo Bay.
To construct islands, they needed huge quantities of earth, which they dug away from Goten-yama.
I think in this View 28, published in 1856, Hiroshige wanted to record the change.
さて、今日の御殿山へ行ってみましょう。
前回の83景の舞台八ツ山からすぐのところです。

ちなみにこの広い敷地は開東閣という三菱グループの所有地です。
木々に囲まれて見ることはできませんが、岩崎家の元別邸（1908年完成、ジョサイア・コンドル設計）が建ってるんだそうです。
一般公開はせず、今でもパーティーなどで使われているんだそうです。行ってみたいな。
It's a property of Mitsubishi Companies, called Kaitokaku.
Big woods hide the western-style mansion, designed by Joshiah Condor and completed in 1908.
It is still used by the companies for parties and press conferences.
そしてこの辺りが御殿山。現在御殿山トラストシティと呼ばれています。

大洗サンビーチで海水浴 Oarai Sun Beach
毎日暑いですね！
茨城の大洗サンビーチへ久しぶりに行ってきました。
ここは遠浅の海に波もちょうどいいくらい、我が家のお気に入りの海水浴場なんです。
Oarai Sun Beach is our favorite beach in Ibaraki.
It's the nice shallow beach, and it has nice waves.
早朝に家を出て、8時前にはビーチに到着。
まだ人出もそれほどではありません。
Last Sunday, tired of this hot weather, we escaped to the beach.
We started early and got there before 8 AM.
So it wasn't crowded.

水は冷たくて気持ちいい。心地よい風も吹いています。

But soon it got very crowded.

Still, the ocean is big enough for all the people.
I enjoyed it very much.
沖まで泳いで浜辺のほうを見ると、色とりどりのパラソルやテントがまるでお花畑のように見えました。
When I swam out and looked back at the beach, it looked like a colorful flower garden with all those parasols and tents.

昼前にはビーチを後にし、温泉に行ってきれいになって、それから遅めの昼食です。
We left the beach before noon, went to a hot-spring bath, got clean and then had lunch.

大洗には他にアクアワールドという大きな水族館、高さ60メートルのマリンタワー、それにアウトレットモールなどもあって、楽しめます。
Besides the beach and hot springs, the town of Oarai has a big aquarium called Aqua World, 60-meter-tall Oarai Marine Tower, and outlet mall.
さらに新たに加わった魅力（？）が…
And besides all that, it looks like Oarai got another attraction.

私は全然知らなかったのですが、「ガールズ＆パンツァー」というアニメがあって、その舞台がここ大洗。
なんでも架空の大洗女子学園に通う女子高生が「戦車道」という昔の戦車を使った武道で戦うんだそうで…

Japanese animation series "Girls und Panzer" is set on this town.
The girls go to the fictional Oarai Girls High school and
as club activities, they are practicing tank warfare, a popular martial art in the fictional world. (I think that's what I understood.)

Anyway, it seems Oarai has become a "Pilgrimage" spot for the fans.

夏の野菜たち Summer Vegetables
家庭菜園で野菜作りの上手なお友達がいます。
時々声をかけてくださるので、お野菜をいただきに行くのですが、
先日もこんなにたくさん収穫してきましたよ。＼(^o^)／
One of my friends is a good home gardener.
He sometimes invites me to his garden, and I get to pick the vegetables. ＼(^o^)／
These are what I got the other day, fresh, right from the garden.

きゅうりにはまだ花がついたまま Cucumbers still have flowers on the end.
オクラやミョウガもぷりぷりです。
The green ones are Okra and the reddish ones are Myoga.

オクラはとんがった方を上にまっすぐぴんとなるんですね。
黄色い立派な花もきれいでした。
（カメラ持っていけばよかった。）
Did you know that Okra plants have pretty yellow flowers?
I saw them at his garden. (I should have brought my camera with me.)
Myoga (Japanese ginger) have very distinctive flavor.
I use them as a garnish for miso soup and sunomono (sort of sweet sour cucumber salad).
ゴーヤもたくさん。
ゴーヤの苦み癖になりますね。
These are goya (bitter melon).
As you can easily imagine, it's very bitter.
But once you get used to it, you kind of get to like its bitterness.
I usually stir-fry it with pork, tofu, and eggs.

シソの香りは私の一番好きな香り。
Shiso leaves have such a wonderful fragrance.
I would say it's my most favorite smell.

84景 品川すさき View 84 Shinagawa Susaki

品川宿から江戸湾を見た景色ですが、まずは江戸時代の地図をご覧ください。
This is the view of Edo Bay from Shinagawa-shuku.
But first, let's look at the old map of the area .
ピンクの丸の中にあるのが、28景に描かれている御殿山です。
右上から斜めに下りる道（ピンクの線の道）が東海道。
東海道53次で日本橋から数えて最初の宿場町がここ品川宿でした。
街道沿いには宿屋、料理屋、妓楼が数百件も並んでいたそうですよ。
Encircled in pink is Goten-yama, depicted in View 28.
The street running from upper right to lower left (with a pink line) is Tokaido, which was the main traveling route between Edo and Kyoto.
Shinagawa-shuku was the first station from Nihonbashi, Edo, and there were several hundreds of shops, inns and brothels in this area.

それがこの84景のタイトルにある洲崎です。

そしてその先端にあるのが洲崎弁天社です。
The narrow winding river is Meguro River.
Do you see a spit of land at its mouth?
The land was called Susaki, the title of this View.
It was fishermen's town.
And at its tip was Susaki Benten Shrine.
広重は品川宿の星マークのあたりから、矢印の方向、江戸湾を見ています。
というわけで、さあもう一度広重の絵を見てみましょう。
Hiroshige is at the red star, looking in the direction of the arrow, toward the Edo Bay.
Let's look at the print again.
赤い鳥居の弁天社が描かれていますね。
その向こうに江戸湾の美しい青が広がります。
白い帆が映えますね。
Benten Shrine is surrounded by pine trees.
The beautiful blue of Edo Bay stretches beyond it, nicely accented with white sails.
The river in the front is Meguro River, and the house to the lower left is said to be "Dozo Sagami," the most famous brothel in Shinagawa-shuku. (If you are interested, the room looks something like this View 83.)

猪苗代で８０分 Eighty Minutes in Inawashiro, Fukushima
一泊二日で裏磐梯に行ってきました。
大宮から東北新幹線で郡山、そこから磐越西線で猪苗代駅へ。
We were to spend two days in Urabandai, Fukushima.
We took Tohoku Shinkansen from Omiya to Koriyama, then, Ban-etsu Nishi Line to Inawashiro.

猪苗代駅に到着しましたが、さて裏磐梯のホテルのお迎えバスの時間まで約80分もあります。
というわけで、猪苗代湖を見に行こうということに。
We got off at Inawashiro Station.
Our hotel bus was going to pick us up in about 80 minutes.
So, in that 80 minutes, we decided to walk to Lake Inawashiro, and come back.

今日の宿泊地、裏磐梯は磐梯山の向こう側ですが、磐梯山は頂上が雲に覆われていました。

日本で4番目に大きい湖です。It's the fourth largest lake in Japan.

I learned that the old house where he was born and grew up is still there.

裏磐梯 ホテル グランデコ Hotel GRANDECO in Urabandai
裏磐梯のホテル、グランデコ。
初めて一泊しただけでしたが、とても気に入りましたのでお勧めします。
Hotel GRANDECO is in Urabandai, Fukushima.
We stayed there for one night, for the first time.
I found it was a nice getaway place, not far from Tokyo area.

冬にはスキーリゾートになるようで、ホテルのすぐ裏にリフト乗り場があります。

五色沼 Goshiki-numa in Fukushima
9月２７日の御嶽山の水蒸気噴火では多くの犠牲者が出ました。
紅葉シーズンの晴れた週末、それもお昼時というタイミングを恨めしく思いながら、ニュースを見て胸を痛めています。
On Sep. 27, Mt. Ontake erupted due to a "phreatic explosion" and many hikers were killed.
The casualties were high, because it unfortunately happened around sunny Saturday noon, in this beautiful foliage season.
I'm very sorry for the victims and their families.
9月はじめに裏磐梯を旅行した時には、もちろんそんなことが起こるとは知るべくもなく。
ただ私はそこで初めて「水蒸気噴火」という言葉を知ったのでした。
When I visited Urabandai in early September, I never knew this would happen.
But it was when I first learned the word "phreatic explosion."
今からおよそ１２０年前、１８８８年に磐梯山で「水蒸気噴火」がありました。
その噴火で磐梯山の中の小磐梯が山体崩壊。
岩屑なだれを起こしました。
ふもとの川や小川がせき止められ、およそ３００もの新しい湖や沼ができたそうです。
About 120 years ago, in 1888, Mt. Bandai in Fukushima erupted due to a "phreatic" explosion.
One of the peaks collapsed and caused debris avalanche.
Rivers and streams were dammed, and about 300 new lakes and marshes were created.

裏磐梯にある大小たくさんの湖が、わずか１２０年ほど前の噴火によってできたとはびっくりしました。
I was surprised to know those lakes in the area, big and small, were created by the eruption only 120 years ago.

およそ４キロの五色沼自然探勝路を歩いてきました。
Goshiki-numa (Five-Color-Ponds) is a famous touring spot in Urabandai.
We hiked the 4-kilometer Goshiki-numa Ponds Nature Trail.

本当に水の色が違うのでびっくりしました。

噴火後すっかり荒地となっていたこの地の緑化に挑戦したのが遠藤現夢（えんどうげんむ）。
１９１０年ころ２年をかけておよそ１０万本の木を植えたそうです。
おかげで一帯は今では豊かな森となっています。
The area was barren for a while after the eruption.
Around 1910, a man named Endo Genmu tried to reforest the area.
He kept planting more than 100 thousand trees over two years.
Thanks to him, the area is a rich forest now.

遠藤現夢のお墓と磐梯山噴火でなくなった犠牲者慰霊の碑が柳沼の近くにあります。

雪の降る中、人々が黙々と歩いています。
丘も木々も橋も真っ白。ただ川だけが青くて。
タイトルの赤が美しいアクセントになっていますね。

架かっているのは太鼓橋。
石造りのアーチ型の橋というのは江戸時代には大変珍しかったそうですよ。
This is Meguro River and Taiko-bashi Bridge (Taiko means a drum in Japanese).
The arched stone bridge was very unusual in the time of Edo.
この道を左（東）に行けば行人坂という上り坂。
右（西）に行けば有名な目黒不動がありました。
嬉しいことに、今もあまり変わっていません。
If you take the road to the left (east), you are climbing a steep slope called Gyonin-zaka.
If you go to the right (west), you will come to Meguro Fudo temple.
I was happy to find this area hasn't changed very much from Hiroshige's time.

江戸三大大火の一つ、明和の大火（1772年）では死者数14700人とも言われています。
その火元がここ大円寺だったそうで。
犠牲者を供養するためにこれらの石仏群が作られたそうです。
One of the three greatest Edo Fires, the Great Meiwa Fire in 1722, killed more than 14,700 people.
It is said the fire started from this temple.
For the victims, they built these statues.

2)八百屋お七と吉三 Yaoya Oshichi and Kichiza
八百屋お七のお話はご存知ですよね。
吉三会いたさに家に火をつけ、火刑に処せられたお七。
1683年のことだそうです。
Yaoya Oshichi is a famous girl in the Edo period. Her sad story is so famous, even today. It's a long story, but to make it short, she fell in love with a temple page Kichiza. In 1683, in the hope of seeing Kichiza, she set fire to her own house. She was caught and burned at the stake. (for more detail, see here)

でもその後、吉三がどうなったかご存知ですか？
吉三は西運という僧になり、諸国を行脚。
その後、大円寺の下の明王院に入ったそうです。
お七の菩提を弔うため、浅草観音まで往復およそ40キロの道のりを夜中に歩く行を1万回、実に27年5か月かけて成し遂げたとか。
Later, Kichiza became a priest with the name Saiun.
His temple, Myooin, was right next to Daien-ji temple.
For the poor girl, he saddled himself a very hard practice of 10,000-time-midnight-walks from his temple to Asakusa temple (It was about 40 Km round trip).
He completed it in 27 years and five months!

西運は江戸市民から浄財の寄進を受け、行人坂に敷石の道を作りました。あの石造りの太鼓橋も西運が作ったのだそうですよ。(^^)
Edo people respected him and donated him money.
With the money, he built the stone arched bridge which we see in Hiroshige's print. (^^)

假屋崎省吾の世界＠百段階段 The World of Shogo Kariyazaki at Hyakudan-kaidan
目黒雅叙園にある百段階段で行われた「假屋崎省吾の世界」展に行ってきました。
毎秋こちらで開かれていて今年で１５年目だそうです。
Shogo Kariyazaki is a famous Ikebana flower artist in Japan.
He is also a popular TV personality.
Every autumn, he exhibits his artwork at Hyakudan-kaidan in Meguro Gajoen.
This year, it was held between October 1-26.

百段階段というのは１９３０年代に作られた雅叙園に残る唯一の木造建築。
百段といいながら実は９９段。
奇数のほうが縁起がいいということらしいです。
Hyakudan-kaidan is a very unique place built in the 1930s. "Hyakudan-kaidan" means "100 steps" but actually, there are 99 steps. (A lady explained that it was because odd number was considered luckier than even number.)

それぞれを高名な画家や彫刻家などが手がけ、贅を尽くしたまさに芸術品のようなお部屋です。

予約制の見学ツアーか、あるいはこのような展示会で見られるのみ。
しかも通常は写真撮影禁止。
今回初めての試みとして、トワイライト入場者のみ写真撮影が許されました。
すごいラッキーだったみたいで嬉しい！＼(^o^)／

明けましておめでとうございます A Happy New Year!
お久しぶりです！
まるで冬眠中(?)かのようにすっかりご無沙汰でしたが、元気に忙しくしておりました。
実家松山に帰ったり、甥っこの結婚式があったり、初めての鼓童コンサートに行ったり、それからクリスマス、お正月…。
忙しくて、楽しかった！

さて、今年もお節は頑張って作りました。
Every year for the New Year, I make a traditional Japanese food called Osechi.
It's in wooden boxes called Jubako.

お弁当箱 Bento Box
夫が仕事にお弁当を持っていきたいと言い出したのは先月のこと。
「ええっ？どうして食堂で食べるのやめるの？？？食堂で食べようよ～」と頑張ってみましたが…。
「忙しくてゆっくり食べる時間がない」とかの理由で、結局お弁当作りが始まりました。
でもいやいやなので、申し訳ないほどに惨めなお弁当。(>_<)
Last month, my husband said he wanted to bring lunch to his work and asked me hesitantly if I could make Bento (box lunch) for him.
"What?? Why don't you want to eat at the cafeteria any more?" I asked desperately.
He said he's too busy to go to the cafeteria, and that's how I started making Bento for him.
But my reluctant Bento looked terrible! (>_<)

25景目黒元不二 View 25 Moto-Fuji in Meguro

今の代官山あたりから、西を望む絵です。
遠くには白い富士山。
近景の山は元富士（不二）です。
山といっても人工のもの。いわゆる富士塚です。
This is not far from Daikanyama today.
We are looking to the west, hence white Mt. Fuji can be seen in the far distance.
The mountain in the foreground is Moto-Fuji, which actually
is not a mountain, rather, a man-made replica of Mt. Fuji.
江戸時代、富士山信仰が盛んでした。
でも、富士登山となると、なかなか大変。
そこで、人々は町に富士塚を作り、同じご利益があるようにそれに登りました。
江戸市中になんと100以上の富士塚があったそうですよ。
（そのうちの一つに登ったときのことは、ここに書いてあります。よかったらどうぞ。）
In the late Edo period, many such mini-Fuji were built.
Why?
Edo people worshiped Mt. Fuji, but it wasn't easy to go and climb the mountain.
So, people built many (more than a hundred!) mini-Fuji in the city.
(I went to one of them and wrote about it here.)
さて、この元富士。
1812年に作られて、高さおよそ12メートル。
江戸でも人気の富士塚でした。
というのも、目黒川を見下ろす高台にあって、本物の富士山の眺めも抜群でしたから。
Built in 1812 and 12 meters tall, Moto-Fuji was one of the most popular mini-Fuji in Edo.
It was on the bluff overlooking Meguro River, and it offered splendid view of the real Fuji.
元富士と呼ばれるようになったのにはわけがあって、1819年すぐ近くにもう一つ富士塚が作られたから。
こちらが元富士、あちらが新富士というわけです。
Moto-Fuji literally means "Original Fuji."
It was called "original" because in 1819, another mini-Fuji was built nearby, which was called "Shin-Fuji (New Fuji)."
残念ながらこの元富士は1878年に取り壊され、その跡地に案内板が残されているのみ。
Sadly, Moto-Fuji was dismantled in 1878.
Only a guide plate says it was once here.

元富士の跡を追ってきましたが、まだ広重の絵のような一枚は撮れていません。
I've followed the trace of Moto-Fuji, but I haven't taken any photo that I can compare with Hiroshige's print.
Where can I take it?

上目黒氷川神社の前の大きな通りの向こう側に大橋ジャンクションがあります。
Not far from Kami-Meguro Hikawa Shrine, just across a big street, is this unique structure.

そこが目黒天空庭園となっているのはご存知でしょうか？
大橋ジャンクションを覆う屋根の上を緑化した公園で、2013年3月にオープンした時は、ニュースでもさかんに取り上げられていました。
前から行ってみたいと思っていたのですが、今回ついに実現しました。
It's called Meguro Sky Garden.
It is a garden park constructed on a sloping roof that covers the intersection of expressways.
When it opened in March 2013, it was a big topic.
Finally, I get to visit there.

and even vegetable garden,
大橋ジャンクションを覆う屋根の上を緑化した公園で、2013年3月にオープンした時は、ニュースでもさかんに取り上げられていました。

結納 Yuino
先日長男の結納式がありました。
One of my sons is engaged and the other day, he and his fiancee had an engagement ceremony called Yuino.
Yuino, though not as common as it used to be, is a long tradition in Japan.

Families of both sides get together to celebrate the engagement and exchange symbolic gifts in a formal way.
場所は都内のホテル。
訪問着で出かけました。
It used to take place at the bride's home, but nowadays it can be done at other places, too.
We did it at a hotel restaurant in Tokyo.

お式では「幾久しく」という言葉が何度も使われます。
思ったよりずっと厳かで、結構緊張しました。(^^)
The ceremony goes quite formally, as follows.
The groom's father says to the bride's father,
"Thank you for your approval for this marriage. Please accept these gifts ikuhisashiku (very formal way of saying forever and ever.)"
And he offers these.

Then, the bride's father says to the groom's father,
"Thank you. We accept them ikuhisashiku."
Next, the bride's father says to the groom's father,
"Thank you for your approval for this marriage. Please accept these gifts ikuhisashiku."
He offers these.

頂いた物は床の間に飾ってあります。袴料、長熨斗、末広、他。
Hakama (Japanese male skirt) money, dried abalone, fans.
And the groom's father says,
"Thank you. We accept them ikuhisashiku."
After that, the bride and the groom exchange gifts, repeating the above procedure.
So, a lot of ikuhisashiku. (^^)
さて、お式の後は、みんなで楽しく会席料理をいただきます。
お結納にふさわしい、おめでたく美しいお料理でした。
After the ceremony, we had Kaiseki dinner.
It was very beautiful, suitable for this happy occasion.

お刺身 sashimi (Crane is a symbol of longevity.)
特に私がきれいだと思ったのは八寸のこのお皿。
これまでいただいたお料理の中で一番きれいだったと思います。
I especially liked this plate.
It was the most beautiful plate I could remember.

オシドリの中は…。 Lovebirds are the symbol of happy marriage.

素敵な結納式ができて本当にありがたいことだと思っています。
It was a beautiful, wonderful Yuino.
お嫁さんの振り袖姿を見ることができて、それも嬉しかったです。
とてもきれいでした！！
And my future daughter-in-law wore her Furisode Kimono for this ceremony.
She was soooo beautiful!

Furisode is a kimono worn by young unmarried women. The sleeves are very long. (Compare to my kimono sleeves.) And obi, a long sash about four meters long, is tied very elaborately on the back.

こちらから送ったセット。帯料、長熨斗、鰹節、するめ、昆布、友白髪、末広、柳樽。それぞれにいろんな意味がこめられていることを改めて知りました。
